There was
another issue that caught my attention in the newsletter. It was in the September
24, 2012 newsletter. The issue was related to the topic of week two assignment.
It’s Creating a Culture of Peace through Education.
The United
Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, emphasized the role of education in
discussing the implementation of the UN Program of Action on a Culture of
Peace. “Through education, we teach
children not to hate. Through education, we raise leaders who act with wisdom
and compassion. Through education, we establish a true, lasting culture of
peace, “said the Secretary General.
Culture of
Peace should be for all people entering the country because the demographics
and diversity is changing rapidly and foreigners need to know how to relate to
other nationalities. Therefore, as you give up your rights for your old country,
you should recognize, acknowledge, and learn your new American culture values
through programs. Culture of Peace should
start the program with parents, and implemented through early childhood education. I also learned through Witness news, there
were a lot of movement from other states into New York City, and out of the
five boroughs the vast majority of the people had moved into Brooklyn.
Hello Tamarah:
ReplyDelete"Culture of Peace" what a wonderful concept and state of mind all human beings can share/live, without hurting anyone's feeling. It reflects the true meaning of "Acceptance" and "Tolerance". Respect for the individual regardless of ethnic background and beliefs.
In your last paragraph, I like how it states as individuals enter this country need to acknowledge/recognize "The" culture of the West, and that my dear what makes America so beautiful, the many subcultures that form one big culture, The American Culture. A society where we as educators have the ethical responsibility to teach/model children " The Culture of Peace".
Tamarah,
ReplyDeleteI love the concept of "culture of peace". What a difference in the world we could make as EC educators if we all just committed to really teaching peace.
